Motherhood and Guilt

I am having a hard time pulling together a wardrobe. I never thought I would feel so guilty about buying things that I need. The last time I spent serious money on clothes/accessories I was in college....almost 4 years ago. I was single, making pretty good money, and didn't even think of saving a dime. Today things a little different, I am married, a mom, and saving like mad for a down payment. Working from home also makes it easy to wear yoga pants and a zip-up hoodie every day of the week, and I'm having a hard time justifying using future "house" money for dark wash jeans that no one will ever see.

But then I think about Sela. I don't want her to feel that I didn't care enough about myself to throw on a decent pair of jeans or own a dress that I really, really loved. I don't want her to feel guilty about things that she needs, or wants, for that matter. I want her to feel confident, strong, and beautiful. I hope I can teach her by example to always be her best self.

In addition to the guilt, I am also having a hopeless time pulling together a decent outfit.... either it's been a little too long or internet shopping isn't for me. So I snagged these lovely ladies to use as inspiration....aren't they stunning?

All You Need Is Love...

I am so happy that I found this pretty little project that Pia is putting together. My Heart Wanders: A Collection of Subtle Hearts in Special Places is a beautiful, positive book, assembled using pictures that anyone can submit. What a wonderful idea, I am so inspired!

Mama Needs A New Wardrobe

It has been a almost 2 years since I became pregnant with the little Miss, and my body has definitely been on one wild ride. Twenty pound weight gain, thirty pound weight loss, eight pound weight gain(You have to love the holidays), four pound weight loss...with all of this stretching and shrinking my clothes have HAD it(not to mention my unmentionables). I have donated the majority of my old clothes and I'm searching for some great basics, so if any of you have any favorites, let me know!

I really like what I'm seeing over at TULLE.

Cottage Charmer

Brian and I might be moving to SLC this fall, he has been commuting for the past 6 months and he refuses to drive through another winter. So, we have been debating on whether we should buy or rent. Rent prices in SLC would make it almost impossible to save for the down payment we need/want(unless we move to sex offender central), but buying seems like such a huge step!
I've been keeping my eyes open and I found this pretty little house. It is in Layton, which is a little too far north for Brian's commute, but I really like it. So, if you're looking to move and you like hardwood floors, fruit trees, and a quiet and safe neighborhood, this one is for you.

Check it out here.

I saw Juno for the first time last week(I know, I know, we're soooo behind), and apart from not knowing most of the new slang phrases, I absolutely loved it. Ellen Page is a genius, Michael Cera is so awkwardly wonderful, and the one liners were fantastic!

Renovation

What an awesome article in the NY Times! David and Gina Giffels bought this 1913 Tudor mansion for $65,000 and have completely renovated it over the past 12 years.

This morning I woke up to the sound of the lawn mower.

Spring is just lovely :)

I know it may seem like I'm a hypocrite, my blog is full of STUFF. Pretty stuff, expensive stuff, useless stuff...just stuff. Most of the stuff I will never own, or even think of buying (a house or pretty French tea towels?), but I still get a little weak in the knees for well designed textiles, interiors, and ice cream. I do, however, think that well designed pieces are important. Good, quality design can be timeless and will last through the years, helping to end the materialistic "throw away" society that we have become. The next time you buy something, think about where it came from, who made it, and your reasons for buying it.
This week Brian and I bought bedside tables, we have been without for almost 2 years. It has been a little obnoxious, but I'm so glad we waited. I found two matching, beautiful tables at an antique shop on Tuesday morning. I spent all evening dusting and polishing them, and every time I walk by the bedroom I just swoon, they are so well made! Yeah, I spent almost triple what I would have had I just gotten two $15 tables from IKEA that would have needed to be replaced in the next few years when my tastes changed or I wanted to upgrade.

I really hope you watch this (short) video and have a good weekend.

Thanks for reading :)

Beach Cruisers in Provotown

When the weather (finally) warms up, all I want to do is wear pretty dresses, pack a picnic lunch, and ride a beach cruiser all around town.
I have a serious crush on that basket...in white.

Caramelized Pear and Toasted Pecan = a little piece of heaven for $4.69

No, seriously.

FREE MARTHA

This has to be the greatest shirt ever cross-stitched (and possibly the only one). It is a bust of Martha Stewart and it says "FREE MARTHA" across the top. I almost cried when Em took her jacket off, it is just that awesome.

Rosanna Ceramics

I know I am waaaaaay behind the times, but I just discovered Rosanna Ceramics yesterday. I normally wouldn't admit my lameness by posting them, but I really want a few of the pieces, and if you haven't noticed, I am using my blog as one giant birthday/Mother's Day/ Anniversary/Christmas list.
